Republicans say impeachment would further divide the country after Trump provoked an attempted coup, but a majority of Americans support it

At least five House Republicans support impeaching President Donald Trump over the Capitol siege, but most are pushing against it and arguing that it would further divide the country.
"This will only bring up the hate and fire more than ever before," one House Republican said on Wednesday.
But multiple polls show a majority of Americans support the House impeaching Trump and the Senate removing him from office.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives is expected to impeach President Donald Trump for the second time in his presidency.
The House is impeaching Trump on one article of inciting an insurrection on the US Capitol on January 6.
Next, the Senate will hold a trial to determine whether Trump should be removed from office.
It is unclear whether the Senate will hold a trial and vote on whether to remove Trump from his office before his term expires on January 20.

President Donald Trump is set to become the first president in American history to be impeached twice with the House expected to pass an article charging him with inciting an insurrection on the Capitol.
