Popeyes just launched its first store in China, and photos show how not even a pandemic can keep a horde of fans from their chicken sandwich

Popeyes opened its first Chinese location in Shanghai on May 15, despite the ongoing pandemic.
Crowds of people swarmed the restaurant, illustrating how Popeyes' famous chicken sandwich has pandemic-proofed its brand.
While other fast-food restaurants are seeing declines in sales due to the pandemic, Popeyes is the only brand whose sales have continued to be robust.
After such a strong opening, Popeyes is well-positioned to take on the Chinese market and start opening more of the 1,500+ restaurants the chain plans to open.

The Trump administration and top security officials considered whether to conduct the first US nuclear test explosion since 1992, according to the Washington Post.
The discussion came up in a meeting on Friday, May 15, after Trump officials accused Russia and China of both performing low-yield nuclear tests - allegations both countries have denied.
The proposal sparked disagreement and did not conclude with any agreement. But a senior administration official was quoted as saying the topic is "very much an ongoing conversation."

China reports no new coronavirus cases for first time since pandemic began

China recorded no new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland for May 22, the first time it had seen no daily rise in the number of cases since the pandemic began in the central city of Wuhan late last year.
The National Health Commission said in a statement on Saturday that this compared to four new cases on the previous day. It said, however, there were two new suspected cases: an imported one in Shanghai and locally transmitted case in the northeastern province of Jilin.
New asymptomatic cases of the coronavirus fell to 28 from 35 a day earlier, the NHC said.
